Margaret Irwin West is a Painter and Printmaker who was born in Madhya Pradesh, India, which she has recently re-vistited. She has roots in Roscommon but has been living and working in Connemara since 1991. Her work is deeply influenced by the traces of human habitation and ‘interference” evident in this ancient landscape Having trained in Dublin and Paris, she exhibited successfully in Irish Exhibition of Living Art; Oireachtais and other juried shows of the ‘fifties’. After 11 yrs in Uk raising her family, she returned to Dublin where she worked ‘Full-time” for Dun laoghaire VEC and then NCAD, 1976 to 1991. During this period she also took up Intaglio Printmaking at Graphic Studio, Dublin, and subsequently Black Church Print Studio. Continuing to Exhibit, her work is held in both public and private collections. In 2008 she received a “Lifetime Achievement Award”
