We are excited to unveil a groundbreaking research project, “Local Action; Global Impact”, that merges the creative world with the climate movement. This innovative carbon offset project hopes to confirm the arts as a force for environmental change.
About Local Action; Global Impact:
At its core, this program recognises that every brushstroke, every action, every exhibition and event, every note, and every performance can make a difference in our fight against climate change. We believe that by harnessing the immense power of the arts, we can create meaningful change in our local communities while contributing to a greener planet on a global scale.
Why “Local Action; Global Impact” Stands Out:
Local Action: The project, already in early research stage, is looking at the creation of a measurable, ethical, and non-bureaucratic approach to carbon offsetting. The project realises that carbon offsetting is not ideal nor is it the end point, but it is a necessity for those on the journey to delivering sustainable green policies and processes.
Ethical: The project understands that some of the existing morass of off-set programmes come with unexpected impacts that have a negative effect outside of their promised delivery, or may fail to deliver for all sorts of reasons. Our own journey has shown how hard it is to find programmes that stand up to scrutiny.
Empowering Creativity: Our program allows artists and arts organisations to take climate action. From theatres and galleries to artists, musicians and dancers, every artist can now be an eco-champion.
Global Reach: The positive impact of this program extends far beyond local borders. By participating, it is not just supporting our local community; but it is also having a worldwide impact in the fight to combat climate change.
Carbon Offsetting Made Easy: The project aims to simplify carbon offsetting for artists and arts organisations. With a seamless process, it can integrate into existing measurement systems, or using the basic matrices published by respected academic institutions and NGOs, the project will look at using carbon footprint calculations to invest in projects that reduce CO2 emissions through a range of initiatives that also benefit the cultural sector, helping to create a more sustainable future.
How You Can Get Involved:
Spread the Word: We will be keeping members of VAI up to date on the progress of the project as it develops. We are currently meeting with experts in the field to go through the early stage ideas. When this is complete, and if we find that there is sufficient support and traction, we will be asking you to encourage artists, organisations, and people and organisations that you work with to join “Local Action; Global Impact” to multiply our collective impact.
Together, We Create Change:
“Local Action; Global Impact” is not just another initiative; it’s a movement that unites creativity and sustainability. Join us for other parts of our programme of events that support this transformative journey as we prove that the arts can be a powerful catalyst for positive environmental change.
